Mooring Winch Brake Reline Service

As brake and clutch relining specialists, we were contacted to refurbish and reline a pair of brake shoes for a commercial ships mooring winch. 

Upon receiving the brake shoes, we removed the old friction pads and fully cleaned the brake shoes allowing the new asbestos free friction pads to adhere to the shoe. The new friction pads were riveted to the shoe using copper rivets, copper rivets are commonly used for applications at sea as they provide longevity and do not rust.

Once complete, the relined brake shoes were fully inspected and shipped back to the client. To minimise downtime and cost, the client required a quick turnaround, as with most of the services that we provide, we aim to minimise your downtime and as a result we cleaned, relined and shipped these brake shoes back to our client within 24 hours of receiving them.

We can thermally bond pads to brake shoes at our Sheffield based engineering facility, this provides an enhanced adhesion and prevents the pads from slipping. As these pads are used at sea, our client didn’t want thermal bonding as this would prevent them from changing the pads themselves while at sea. Alongside our reline services, we can supply replacement pads and rivets allowing our clients to reline brake shoes themselves. copper
